We all want glowing skin. People say, “You are what you eat”, and this has never been more accurate. Even though you can’t see it, what you eat has a pretty big impact on how you look. Beautiful skin signifies a beautiful diet. Unfortunately, in our hectic lives we often tend to neglect ourselves. Read on for a few simple diet changes that can make a big impact on your radiance.
Veggies are known for their nutritive and antioxidant properties. Many studies suggest that people who consume high amounts of veggies have a lower incidence of skin disorders. Dark leafy greens like broccoli, spinach, and Swiss chard have high levels of Vitamin A-the one essential for the health of your skin. It helps in regenerating skin cells, which reduces wrinkles and keeps your skin healthy. In addition to skin, a diet rich in Vitamin A can also be great for your hair, as it helps in reducing hair loss.
Vitamin C is another essential vitamin you need to consume more of if you want to keep your skin’s vitality. What can it do? It boosts collagen production, which helps in reducing wrinkles and age spots. Vitamin C also helps in retaining the moisture in the skin, which makes it look radiant. Broccoli and kale anyone?
Fruits are jam-packed with antioxidants and fiber. They are rich in Vitamin C and beta-carotene, which aids in removing toxins from the body. Since bata-carotene is converted to Vitamin A after it’s consumed, that means fewer toxins and clearer, more radiant skin for you. Vitamin C also aids in boosting immunity and prevents you from getting sick- I’ve yet to meet anyone that looks fabulous with the flu. Not to mention it aids in reducing wrinkles and pigmentation, which is a common problem among women above the age of 30. Another amazing property of Vitamin A in fruit is that it helps in maintaining moisture in dryer skin. Anyone with a dryer skin type can appreciate a little extra hydration. Some great options for this include kiwi, mango, and papaya.
Studies have shown that a diet rich in protein is indeed beneficial for skin health. It helps maintain the firmness of the skin while reducing wrinkles and promoting collagen. Because protein is an integral part of the skin, it also repairs damaged cells and keeps the skin looking great by improving tone. As a protein-rich diet is high in amino acids, it can also help reduce the signs of aging like discoloration, especially on your face and hands. Who knew? So go nuts (and seeds)!
The skin is the first organ to show the effects of a healthy diet. Getting enough fruit, vegetables, and protein are an essential step towards better skin. So, make sure that you eat right to glow from within!
